Suicide a real risk to Absentees hit with massive taxes

SUICIDE A REAL RISK FOR THOSE SUFFERING FINANCIAL HARDSHIP AT THE HANDS OF QLD LABOR'S LAND TAX & ABSENTEE SURCHARGE

The implementation of these punitive taxes were so sudden and unexpected that many people considered as Absentees have no had to endure severe financial and psychological stress.

There are many people struggling with mental health issues.  We are also not talking about a minor tax bill.  These charges are massive and indexed to increase year on year on par with land valuations.  Forcing all manner of people whose life has led them overseas for a myriad of reasons to suddenly have their backs against the financial wall.

The retrospective manner in which this was applied even captured people as 'Absentees' backdated to the beginning of the financial year (1 July 2016), even though the Budget was announced in May 2017.  People already overseas were suddenly caught in the net without any warning and with massive Tax bills.

QLD Labor did not take into consideration any mental health implications of imposing these Taxes.  They will cause suicides for sure.  Shame on you QLD Labor.
