The 2017 Labor Government Budget introduced changes to the Land Tax Act that causes nearly all Australian citizens owning property in Queensland, who are overseas for 6 months or more in a financial year, to be subjected to a combined Land Tax (at a reduced threshold) as well as an Absentee Surcharge at 1.5% of the value of your land. Prisoners of the State.

Serious Medical Risks for travelers fallen ill forced to return before the Tax deadline
Overseas and fall very ill or badly injured?
Are you Fit to Fly to come back before the 6 month QLD Government curfew?
NO? Well, guess what?
You will need to pay thousands in Land Tax & Absentee Surcharges.
There is NO exemption under the Act for people unable to return in time.
Reply from the Deputy Premier Treasurer's office by a Chief of Staff, dated 28 may 2018,
"As you had been absent for more than six months during the 2016-2017 financial year, you were assessed as an absentee for land tax purposes. There is no provision in the Act that allows determination of absentee status by reference to an individual's health circumstances or treatment for Commonwealth taxation purposes".
Eventually, if not already, people so worried about the land tax/absentee charges may put their lives at risk to run the gauntlet back to Australia so as to get back to Australia in time.
This could potentially cause people to die or suffer permanent disability and against doctor's/surgeons recommendations. Blood could well and truly soon be on the hands of these QLD Labor politicians for dead Queenslanders and other Aussies.
I wonder if that will take the smirks off their arrogant faces? 😡 I doubt it. Narcissistic sociopaths running your State it seems.
